12/31/13 YEAR-END ACCOUNTING TASKS CHECKLIST
-Have you ordered your 2014 Accounting software & tax table upgrades?
-Have you reconciled all of your bank accounts for 2013?
-Have you filed all quarterly & year-end payroll tax & sales tax reports by 1/31/14?
-Have you printed & mailed all W-2/1099 forms by 1/31/14 & filing with government by 2/28/14?
-Have you closed out 2013 payroll year (Must be done before entering 2014 payroll checks)?
**Caution- First make proper backup &/or copy data file for use filing 2013 tax reports & forms.
-Have you reconciled all balance sheet accounts to assure that year-end balances used for tax preparation are correct? After accounts are correct-data file should be locked to disallow anyone to enter more or change information in 2013.
-Have you arranged for 2013 tax preparation or filed an extension?
(*Business due date 3/17/14 & Personal due date 4/15/14)
-Have you remembered that after taxes are prepared and mailed each year that fiscal year-end tax adjustments like (depreciation, auto mileage, home office deduction, expenses paid personally, etc). These adjustments should be entered in your accounting software so your book balances match the tax return & then the fiscal year should be closed?
**Caution- First make proper backup &/or copy data file.
*If your fiscal year end is different than 12/31/13 tax due dates could be different.
